The Lady Falcons Volleyball Team Bests Mater Academy

The Lady Falcons volleyball team made a resounding statement by coming out victorious against Mater Academy on Thursday, September 8th

The game commenced and saw our team trail right behind our opposition. Fortunately, our girls came to play as a unit, and through sheer determination not only did they come back, but once the lead was theirs, they never lost it again.

By the end of the first set, the Falcons had firmly established their control over the game, ending with a score of 25-19 and taking the lead 1-0 in sets.

It was a highly contested game as though Ferguson had gained early momentum, the Lions were still doing their best to hang on and not let them fully pull away with the game.

However, even with their best efforts, the Falcons soared over the Lions in convincing fashion, completely sweeping them 3-0 in sets.

This game was an absolute must-win so early into the season as it puts our team on the map.

“Mater Academy has predominantly been a very strong team. They were going to be back-to-back state champions. Our girls came out excited and eager to play though, so it’s no surprise we ended up beating them,” said Head Coach Greg Shanower.

This outing by the Lady Falcons was nothing short of impressive, as they never let their foot off the gas pedal.

“The girls knew that they were going to have to step their level of game up to play against a good competition like that, they stayed focused and brought that type of intensity to the game,” said Coach Shanower.

Ultimately, this game revealed the identity of our volleyball team as a unit that can step onto the big stage and deliver under pressure, which gives very positive signs towards how the rest of the season will unfold.
