Ferguson’s IB Field Day Kicks Off Winter Break
With winter break approaching, students are getting ready to enjoy time off from their schoolwork. IB students in particular often tend to take on bigger academic responsibilities. With this in mind, Ferguson has decided to celebrate students in IB classes by organizing a fun-filled event before we go on break.
This is a relatively recent tradition compared to other school activities like prom or homecoming, but Ferguson is trying to make it a more consistent occurrence each year. The school’s IB Advisory organizes the event, and students of all grades who are part of the IB academy or taking an IB test this year can participate. “I’ve always looked forward to it,” says David Rosales, a senior. “It’s fun and exciting to spend the day outside with my friends.”
The field day itself will take place on Thursday, December 18th, but for those out of the loop, the IB Advisory has shared a few early previews ahead of time for what we can expect. There will be four teams competing against one another, with each being represented by a different color and teacher: the red team is led by Mr. Sierra, the blue team by Mr. Perez, the purple team by Dr. Moreno, and the green team by Ms. Graham.
This year will feature different games like tug-of-war, pass the hoop, egg and spoon races, and even more new ones. Senior Raquel Gaffney comments, “I’m looking forward to checking out which new games they’ll have for us to play this year.” Several of the games are nostalgic for Falcons, so taking part will feel like making new memories on top of existing ones. “It’s honestly just a day for IB students to relax and enjoy,” says Sabrina Chile, a senior.
At the end of the event, students and teachers gather in the auditorium to declare the winner of each of the games. The overall winners get a medal, and their team’s teacher receives a trophy passed on from the previous year’s winner. The field day will be a thrilling way to start winter break, and we hope everyone who participates has a good time.
