Popular Halloween Costumes

As Halloween approaches, students are getting ready to show off their creativity with costumes, either from hit movies of the year or the current fads.

Movie-inspired costumes continue to be some of the most popular choices, especially with the new upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, which seems to be the most hyped movie of the year. And while many students seem to be kept up on Doomsday, with dressing up as Doom himself, or the heroes Cyclops, Wolverine, and Thor, that doesn’t mean Marvel’s completely taken over the scene. 11th Grader Thiago Espinosa says that he’ll be the Green Lantern, and he says, “Cause I watched Lanterns and it made me wanna be Green Lantern for Halloween.” While it is a simplistic reason, we don’t need much thought in the first place when it comes to dressing up as our favorite heroes.

However, just because the new Doomsday movie is generating a lot of traction in the Halloween scene, doesn’t mean that’ll be all. Couples have reported to be going as Bear and Nikki from this year’s hit horror movie, Obsession. And on the other side of the same coin, many students report they’ll be dressing as Captain Clark from the highly praised Backrooms movie. So whilst Superheros have taken the majority of this year’s spotlight, other movie costumes still prevail.

Following up movie costumes, in the same format of entertainment, Anime costumes seem to be on the rise. Lots say they’ll be dressing up as characters from the currently premiering anime, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run. Julian Rodriguez, who will be going as the main character Johnny Joestar from the  aforementioned series, states that, “I just think Johnny’s really cool.” And mirroring JoJo’s, we have plenty of other students going as characters from Bleach, Chainsaw man, and so much more.

Stepping away from entertainment, funny costumes are another major trend this season. Many students are choosing costumes that’ll hopefully be seen as humorous. While not as popular of a pick as the movie costumes, there are plenty of students who will go dressed up as their favorite online meme, Verity. 11th Grader Troy Durrance states that for Fright Night, and by extension Halloween, he’s going to be ‘Lord Verity’ because, “It’s funny.” This costume also seems to resonate with another Junior, Orlando Fernandez, who also believes that it’ll be a “funny and memorable Halloween costume.”

With the spotlight costumes covered, and Halloween festivities beginning, one thing is certain: students will have plenty of exciting costumes to showcase this year, whether it be at Fright Night or during the day of Halloween itself.
