Senior Spirit Week

Similar to the Spirit week at the beginning of the year, Senior spirit week gives seniors an opportunity to have one last week of high school fun before their big day at Graduation. Senior Spirit week was held the week leading to Prom weekend, making it a very exciting week for seniors, whose time in high school is running out.

On Monday, Seniors dressed as tacky tourists. It was like a sitcom in the hallways, with all the Hawaiian floral shirts, khaki cargo shorts, and socks with sandals. Some even wore fanny packs and makeup that looked like sunscreen on their faces.

“Well, I always saw these really tacky people on TV dressing like they’ve never seen the sun with really big hats, too much sunscreen, and socks with chancletas on whenever they would go on vacation or to the beach,” Senior Barbara Suarez said, “I always found it hilarious, and when I saw that Monday was tacky tourist day I knew I had to go all out.”

Day two of Senior Spirit week was Superhero day, seniors were given the opportunity to dress as their favorite superhero. Senior Karina Aguilar went all out in a homemade costume that took her two days to make. She dressed up as the Teen Titan, Raven, who was her favorite superhero character as a kid.

“My favorite character as a kid was Raven because she was alone most of the time, but she showed her love for her teammates at the right moments,” Karina said, “I loved watching Teen Titans. It was one of the first shows that got me into being a geek over superheroes. It was fun to see people get excited over my costume”

As you can see, Seniors got to share their creative side when deciding on what to do for the designated day. They got to share their comedic side to the school on Wednesday with ‘Meme Day’. Senior Juliana Mendoza chose to go as Kermit the frog, who himself has turned into a meme.

“I did the Kermit the frog meme because I thought it was really funny and it matched my sassy personality,” Juliana said.

All throughout the halls, you heard comical outbursts that you typically see on your Instagram feed. Nonetheless, it was an exciting and hilarious sight to see in the courtyard. On Thursday, seniors paired up with a friend and became twins for a day. They wore matching outfits to show their friendships, some of the outfits even being quite goofy. Pairing up with their best friends gave both people a chance to swap their usual looks.

“My twin was Gabriel Nieves and I twinned with him because he’s my best friend and he has such an iconic kind of style that I thought would be nice to dress up like him for a day.” Senior Ariadne Matus said.

On the final day of their Spirit Week and the last day before prom, the seniors showed up wearing their college pride on their sleeves. With graduation approaching for the seniors, Friday allowed them to represent their future schools. For example, Daniela Vargas decided to stay closer to home. She represented FIU on Friday for senior spirit week because she’d be attending their honors program. She is studying both business and music.

Overall, the seniors had lots of fun dressing up for each day and enjoyed all of the themes. It definitely was a great day to end their high school career. Wishing all the luck to the graduating class of 2018!
