The Scream Franchise and Its Generational Impact
Scream 7 was released on February 27, 2026. This movie takes place where Sidney Prescott is now all grown up, she is an adult, and she even has a kid of her own now. After moving towns and getting out of Woodsboro she finds herself going against Ghostface once again. The movie even included her daughter Tatum who is named after her best friend who died in the first Scream movie. Her daughter ends up getting into in fights and has to learn to survive Ghostface by herself.
Freshman student, Frank Sotolongo, stated, “I thought the movie was alright, but I do think it was the worst of the franchise and the future directors need to be more creative for Ghostface’s motive”. Which honestly isn’t wrong, this may have been the worst in the franchise.
Scream 7 was originally supposed to continue the storyline from Scream 5 and 6 but due to issues with the directors and actors they had to create a whole different one. They had created a movie to bring back Sidney who is an original and main character ever since the first Scream movie. Scream 1-4 is the original sequel following Sidney Prescott and then Scream 5 and 6 is the requel which means it’s following a similar storyline just with a whole new cast. Scream 5 and 6 follow Samantha and Tara Carpenter who are the biological kids of Billy Loomis, it also includes characters from past movies like Gale Weathers, allowing the franchise to slowly ease back into it’s original plot.
In all honesty the movie was good if you think about it, there was more blood and gore which made it very realistic, we got to see the original characters from the sequel come back and fight again after all these years, we had an amazing opening act scene, and we even saw many similarities in scenes with Tatum and Sidney. In Scream movies finding out the killer is probably the most important thing. In the past, all the killers have been unexpected and added a needed plot twist to the movies. For example, in the first movie, nobody suspected it to be Billy because he was Sidney’s boyfriend and had gained her trust.
Senior student, Amanda Perez says, “I’d only seen the first Scream movie, but I still really enjoyed the newest one, even if I didn’t fully understand some of the characters. Now I’m planning to watch the rest of the series so I can fully keep up”
Sophomore student, Adrian Ruiz, spoke positively, “Surrounded by a mixed reception from audiences, my opinion still stands firm on Scream 7. The movie was thrilling and touching in my view as this one was not just about gory kills, but also a heartfelt passing of the torch as Sidney and her daughter Tatum team up to defeat this new powerful ghost face. While this may not be the last movie, it sure was an impactful one.”
In the end this movie brings back nostalgia for older generations and was found good. Scream 8 is officially confirmed and it would be great if they bring back Sidney again. Having the original cast makes these movies that much better.
