The Weeknd proudly adopted his stage name when, as a teenager, he left school one weekend and never returned. However, The Weeknd has officially chosen to move on from this iconic bracket in his timeline and be “reborn” with his true name. Although Abel Tesfaye still intends to make music, the name he will be known by from now on will not be The Weeknd.

The Weeknd released his sixth and final studio album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, on January 15, 2025. This album signifies the end of his music career under the moniker The Weeknd, and he chose to make this moment special for him and loyal fans.

Hurry Up Tomorrow features collaborations with artists such as Justice, Anitta, Travis Scott, Florence and the Machine, Future, Playboi Carti, Giorgio Moroder, and Lana Del Rey. Notable tracks include Timeless, São Paulo, and Cry for Me, each memorable in their own ways. This was like a perfect mixture of commonly favorite artists in one singular batch, giving this album an extremely unique flair compared to any album that has ever been released in the music industry.

With this album, The Weeknd concludes his trilogy starting with After Hours and Dawn FM. He also pushes his sound potential by exploring different genres and narration. While the album retains his signature mix of dark R&B and synth-heavy production, it also introduces deeper introspection and more intricate storytelling.

The Weeknd is known for his creative and confident art style, one that challenges itself in every new production. This ambition has been seen throughout the course of his career, like his Super Bowl Halftime performance that included various storytelling devices that he chose to use for his own artistic advantage. Defying expectations is in his creative nature and blowing fans’ minds one last time using his trade name was achieved successfully with this new album.

Critics and fans have praised Hurry Up Tomorrow for its bold production choices and emotional depth. The album’s seamless blending of genres, alongside its deeply reflective lyrics, cements it as one of The Weeknd’s most ambitious works to date. Many speculate that this album marks a turning point in his career with the announcement that he is abandoning his stage name.

For listeners, Hurry Up Tomorrow offers both a thrilling and deeply emotional experience—one that lingers long after the final song ends.
