2024: The Year of Women in Music
From new and iconic pop culture moments and exciting new movies, 2024 has proved itself to be a bustling year so far in regards to entertainment. One of the most thrilling parts of this year is the new music coming out from the most prominent female musicians of this decade. From the classic influential artists like Beyonce and Ariana Grande to new and upcoming artists like The Marias and Normani: this is a year that will not be forgotten for music.
Ruling the industry since her debut album “Dangerously in Love” in 2003, Beyonce’s album continues to prove itself as monumental with each release. In 2021, she announced her multiple-act series of albums, starting with “Renaissance,” an iconic house pop album celebrating the voguing style of people of color. The album did exceptionally well, garnering multiple Grammy wins and nominations. Following rumors about a new album, her surprise commercial during the Super Bowl confirmed a country theme with songs “Texas Hold Em” and “16 Carriages,”. Act II is set to release on the 29th of March.
Ariana Grande is another artist that needs no introduction. Starting her career as a child actor, she released her debut album “Yours Truly” in 2013 and continued to sell out stadiums on tour and top the charts. After taking a break in 2020 to film the Broadway musical adaptation “Wicked,” she announced her comeback single “Yes, and?” in early January, along with her album “eternal sunshine” releasing on the 9th of March.
Gaining traction with their song “Cariño” in 2020, the female-led band ‘The Marias’ has been a prominent figure in the indie music scene. In late February, they posted a series of cryptic messages with an aquatic theme, then announced their upcoming album “Submarine,” releasing on the 31st of May.
After the disbandment of the iconic vocal group Fifth Harmony, Speculation about member Normani’s debut album has been running for years. She’s dropped many clues about her album, but on February 25th she finally announced the album “Dopamine” along with the digital cover.
Of course, while this is only a handful of the music released this year, other artists like Selena Gomez and Lana Del Rey also have heavy rumors of an album soon. Without a doubt, 2024 will go down as one of the most iconic and historical years for women in music.
