Time-Honored Traditions of Our Seniors

Every high school kid dreams of being a senior, and for many, it is the year when they can accomplish all they have seen in movies and on social media. In practically every educational context, seniors are at the top of the pyramid, which means they must pause and prepare for the next phase of their lives.

Each year, seniors eagerly anticipate the benefits that come with their status. Seniors take part in a plethora of events that create memories that last for the majority of their lives. Some of these events are homecoming, prom, gradbash, senior breakfast, and many more.

A senior’s first glimpse of the new year begins on the first day of their final year, marked by thrilling emotions and the tradition of decorating senior jeans and crowns. You create a crown showcasing your identity and commemorating your last year, and you wear jeans with your graduation year displayed to show off your school passion!

Katherine Rodriguez, a Ferguson senior, shared her experience with making her jeans and crown. “I had a blast making my jeans and crown. I made it with my friends and couldn’t have had a better time. It was a great experience getting to make my jeans and crown with the people I plan on spending this year with. Last one, best one!”

Another senior, Sophie Melich, expressed which up-and-coming tradition she most looked forward to. “My favorite senior tradition is probably prom. I’m so excited to go with my friends and have such a fun time. I’ve been looking forward to prom since my freshman year, and now that it’s finally here, I just can’t wait to feel like I have the standard high school experience.”

While senior, Sabrina Sanchez had a different opinion entirely and focused more on the smaller events like senior breakfast, senior sunrise, and senior picnic. She explained, “Most people live in the moment during these events, and that’s what I like about it. There’s no stress about having to be on your A-game for these events, and you get to have the same amount of fun. Prom is going to be fun, don’t get me wrong, but I like going to events knowing all I have to worry about is who I’m going to be hanging out with that day.”

Our Ferguson seniors are eagerly anticipating the upcoming events. Senior year is about creating memories with friends and celebrating the culmination of your high school journey, not just the events.
