The Artistic Minds Behind POST!

Our Falcons got the chance to show off their creativity at “POST!”, a film and art event that brought over 150 people together after school. From amazing short films to incredible art pieces, the event celebrated what students can create and express. It was a fun and inspiring night for all who supported it. 
 
Ferguson hosts their stellar creative conventions twice a school year. This event’s theme was, as the name of the event states, simply the word “POST!”. Although vague, it allowed room for Interpretation of the theme. Film and art teachers alike had wildly different ideas about what they wanted their students to base their works on. For example, Mr. Wilson, our studio art teacher, shared his vision with his students to draw all over Post-it notes and display them all over the exhibit.

On the other hand, Dr. Moreno, our film teacher, shares “I interpreted it as postmodernism, which is a movement in art where you break the rules to see what happens.” This allowed students to put together various abstract meanings, shots, directions, and editing styles into their craft. The photography teacher, Ms. Musella had her class do postcards, which attendees could take with them, adding a level of interactivity.
 
The atmosphere at “POST!” was lively and full of excitement. The sound of enthusiastic clapping and cheering filled the media center after every film, a testament to just how much they enjoyed the variety of stories and creativity displayed on the screen. The art station added to the excitement, giving guests a chance to not only admire the incredible artwork on display but also create their contributions on the post-it provided at the event. The ceramics area showcased unique pottery, adding a variety of artistic means of talent to the showcase. One of the short film producers, Mia Pineiro, summed it up perfectly, exclaiming, “The event was great. There were so many good works of art being shown off!” 
 
Through all these innovative projects, so many individuals were able to show off some amazing creativity and raw talent. Events like POST! Don’t just give them a chance to display the depths of their minds—it inspires students to fall in love with what they’re producing, proving that hard work and dedication go a long way.

Alejandra Arias, a fellow producer of one of the short films, adds, “When I finished my short film, it made me realize that me and my friends/team can make works that make us and others happy.” Words that speak volumes, showing just how much these projects mean personally and how much triumph it brings to everyone involved. 
 
All in all, it was nothing short of a thrilling event that significantly demonstrated just what our students are made of. Truly a heartfelt experience, seeing all kinds of communities, unifying to enjoy the arts with such an uplifting energy. Events like “POST!” highlight the incredible skills lying at our school and give everyone a chance to showcase exactly that. With that being said, our aesthetic falcons are enthusiastically anticipating the next art show and seeing what arrays they come up with next.
