Doggy Day Care: An Ideal Way for Pups to Socialise
Ferguson not only welcomes students but also offers a Doggy Day Care program. The school’s program, run by the FFA organization, allows students to drop off their furry friends for a personal spa day. This initiative provides a luxury not just for your dog but also for your peace of mind. All pet owners know that maintaining and grooming their pets can be challenging, and taking them to a nearby daycare is a convenient way to access services at a lower cost than a typical grooming facility, while ensuring they are in a trustworthy environment.
The Doggy Day Care offers a safe and fun space for pets to relax, and it also teaches students working with animals empathy and responsibility. Students assist with feeding, walking, and grooming under staff supervision, gaining real-world experience that complements their classroom learning. This is especially beneficial for students interested in veterinary science, giving them a head start in learning how to interact with animals of various personalities and needs. Services include baths, nail trims, ear cleaning, and general daycare care.
According to veterinary teacher Ms. Morgan, the program began about five or six years ago and was inherited by the current FFA. Ferguson’s veterinary program cares for numerous animals daily, and bringing your dog to Doggy Day Care offers a great opportunity for socialization in a stimulating environment.
Socialization is vital for a dog’s development, as dogs are naturally social animals. Providing the chance to interact with other dogs and people helps fulfill their need for community. Ferguson’s FFA and veterinary program ensures your dog is safe throughout the day, fed regularly, and has access to fresh water. To participate, pets must meet certain requirements, including vaccinations for Rabies, Bordetella, and Distemper. The cost is $10 per day per dog, so please bring cash.
