A Look Into Summer 2019

As the students at John A. Ferguson Senior High start getting used to their school routine once again, they take a stroll down memory lane and remember all the interesting things that happened over the summer. This past summer vacation was the start of many new trends, memes, and styles in our community. It’s safe to say we had our fair share of laughter and enjoyment during our vacation. Let’s take a look at some of the most memorable moments of Summer ‘19.

After the long wait, summer break officially began on June 6 for the students of Miami-Dade. Right after vacation began, a long-awaited movie was released to the public.  After nearly ten years of waiting, Disney’s Pixar movie “Toy Story 4” made its way into theaters. Adults all across the nation stormed theaters to watch the fourth installment of their favorite childhood film.

“Toy Story” was not the only film that came out over the summer, however. In July, the live action remake of “The Lion King” was available in theaters. With beloved appearances including those of Beyonce and Donald Glover, everyone was going wild over this fun twist on one of our favorite classic movies.

Movies weren’t the only thing that were keeping people entertained over the summer. Social media now plays a key role in everyone’s life in this day and age and with all the information that we have at our fingertips, something extremely out of the ordinary was bound to happen at some point.

On June 27, a man uploaded a post to Facebook saying “Storm Area 51, they can’t stop all of us.” The event, although solely for comedic purposes, has had feedback from people all over the world. Over 2 million people have posted and replied saying that they were going to participate in the raid on Area 51 on September 20th.

Many artists such as Lil Nas X have given into the fun about the raid and have made comical statements on their social media platforms about performing at the “Area 51 Festival.”

As we take a dive into the fashion world, we’ll notice that a series of new trends were created over the summer. Summer ‘19 was a blast from the past in the sense that many accessories and styles from the 80’s, 90’s, and early 2000’s  have been brought back into popular fashion culture. Ranging from small and simple things like girls starting to wear clips in their hair once again, to bringing back entire outfits from way back when.

The student body here at Ferguson made sure to take charge this summer and enjoy it as if there were no tomorrow. Sophomore, Yesslie Rocha, told us about how she took a trip to Los Angeles with her friends over the break. “We went to the Shawn Mendes concert over there and we went to a bunch of different places like Venice Beach and San Francisco,” she says. Enjoying the new atmosphere of California, that trip was one that the girls would never forget.

Another student in the sophomore class, Juliette Nuñez, told us about her birthday trip to the Dominican Republic. She said she did an endless amount of things such as visit the beautiful beaches, go to the concert of her dreams, and celebrate her fifteenth birthday with her group of closest friends.

After talking to several people, it became evident that many of our Falcons went to a Khalid concert the weekend before school began. Singing over thirty songs, that concert was the perfect way to bring summer to a close.

Time seemed to fly this year, but it’s evident that our students had a fun vacation this year with their friends and family (and their raids to Area 51). Although the 2 month break was extremely necessary, and utterly relaxing, it’s time to get back to the routine. Our staff at the Ferguson Talon Newspaper, wishes everyone an excellent school year of 2019-2020. Always remember, summer is only a few months away and it’ll be back before you know it.
