A Reflection of a Remarkable Volleyball Season
As the girl’s volleyball season approaches its end, the diligent athletes reminisce about an era of intense matches and everlasting memories.
Despite their regional loss, the girls demonstrated unwavering sportsmanship. The athletes led with fierceness and with the ammunition to vanquish any team in any game, striking down rival teams such as Palmetto, Braddock, and South Dade with ease. Their perseverance eventually led to them conquering GMAC and accomplishing a three-peat victory in their district championship. With their dedication, the team truly represented what it means to be a Falcon.
As they reflect on their successes, senior players are forced to face the bittersweet realization that their time on the team has come to an end.
“It was hard considering that many players were seniors. It was my last game ever playing, but we had a good season.” Senior captain and outside hitter, Agatha Gonzalez, states. “The best moments were beating teams we were supposed to lose to and enjoying the moment.”
The memories forged this season are etched into the girls’ memories and lay a solid foundation for what it truly means to be part of a team that strives for success and encourages each other to push forward.
Their games, despite whether they won or lost, individually molded the players into well-rounded athletes. As seniors begin to embark on their journeys outside of high school, many are faced with life-changing offers. Libero Kristyn Membreno is headed to the University of Delaware on a Division 1 scholarship, while Setter Mia Gonzalez is on her way to Lynn University in Boca Raton to play Division 2 volleyball.
“We have worked hard this season and achieved a lot more than what we had expected. I am so excited to continue my journey at Lynn University for volleyball,” Gonzalez expresses.
This season was not only a huge success in the hearts of the team; students and staff joined together to cheer on the girls during their thrilling games, which produced a community of active supporters who contributed to the team’s motivation. It isn’t much of a secret that the girl’s commitment is fueled by the endless encouragement from fellow Falcons.
As the girls transition into training for the next season, their achievements this season won’t be forgotten. Instead, it will only encourage them to come back even stronger. We look forward to their return!
