Aloha Pep Rally: Ride the Wave
On Friday, September 5th, Ferguson kicked off the school year with a luau-themed pep rally. The gym was decked out with tropical decorations as the cheerleaders welcomed the students. This pep rally signaled the beginning of what will be an exciting fall season. “It was exciting to spend time with my friends, but it makes me sad to think about how this is my last year doing this,” says cheerleader Kiani Roqueta, a senior.
To correlate with the theme, students came prepared in appropriate beachwear. This included sunglasses, board shorts, leis, and Hawaiian shirts. The efforts put in by the students and teachers to celebrate the school spirit at the first pep rally lit up the gym. The efforts of our student body lit up the gym. With everyone in spirit and excited for the events. “The pep rally met my expectations, as it had great energy from the crowd and fun activities that got everyone involved,” said junior, Jasmin Becerra.
The pep rally took off with an enthusiastic performance from the marching band. Afterwards, the new MCs ran out, tossing spirit shirts and getting the crowd cheering as students dove to catch them. JV cheer took the floor, performing a stunning routine, as well as with the Fusion dance team preforming their iconic dances. Junior Sophie Rodriguez opinionated, “I thought that Fusion really stood out. The team brought enthusiasm and energy to the pep rally. I absolutely love the way that they dance to the music.” Following Ferguson traditions, Fergie’s “Fergalicious” blasted through the speakers, leading to cheerleaders, the Fusion Troupe, and colorguard to all join in for a big group dance.
The football and bowling teams received recognition, followed by the swim team and girls’ volleyball. One of the highlights of the pep rally was a tug of war between students and football players, leaving everyone chocked when the students won.
To wrap things up, Varsity cheer put on an incredible routine that had everyone in awe. Finally, the MCs revealed this year’s homecoming theme: Casino Night, which had all the Falcons full of excitement for the upcoming event. This unforgettable rally set the bar high, and it’s only just the beginning.
