Captain Marvel hits Theaters
One of the most anticipated movies of the year, Captain Marvel, has been successful in the box office since its debut. In theaters since March 8, 2019, the movie has sparked much conversation within the Marvel community. The movie was always kept in mind since its announcement back in 2014 and now has come to the big screen.
Captain Marvel has made $153 million in the United States and Canada on its opening weekend. The number is currently growing and with much hype, there have been many reviews from critics and fans circling around the movie and its actors. The movie has been considered a Disney success through the multiple media outlets where the movie is being discussed.
Set in the mid-90s, Captain Marvel centers around the life of Vers. The protagonist lives in the empire of Kree on another planet. In the beginning, the audience is introduced to Yon-Rogg as her mentor and the recurring nightmares that she can’t understand. She is a Starforce member and the planet is in the midst of a war against aliens called Skrulls. When kidnapped by the aliens, she is able to escape and lands on Earth.
In the city of Los Angeles, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Nick Fury and Phil Coulson notice her arrival. After she finds her previous memories were locked in a crystal, she is able to find out that she was once known as Carol Danvers, an Air Force Pilot. With her new identity, she is able to face the Skrulls and her own personal issues such where her true strength lies.
Finding her true power, she doesn’t let anyone put her down and faces the problem. The movie centers around empowerment and maturity. Viewers get to see at the end that the Avengers contact Captain Marvel.
Now out, many fans are excited to see how Captain Marvel connects to the MCU and can’t wait to see more of this character in the upcoming Marvel movies. With her origin story set, Captain Marvel was featured in the new Avengers Endgame trailer as she is likely to appear in future movies for the franchise. Few fans had concerns towards Brie Larson’s portrayal of Captain Marvel and how Marvel might be heading towards the wrong direction, despite this, the movie was still liked and well-received.
Although many felt that it was a forced portrayal of the superhero, the movie was still able to establish a strong character. The only imperfection of the movie could be that the character lacked some emotional depth throughout the plot of the movie. Yet, some fans speculate that future movies will be able to show many character-building for the superhero and fans will get to see not only her strengths but flaws that make her a likable hero and strong presence in the universe.
She will also play an important role in defeating the notorious Marvel antagonist, Thanos, as she teams up with the Avengers in the new movie that will be released in April.
