Cross Country Season Comes to an End
As the cross country season draws to a close, the athletes reflect on their accomplishments and productivity from the past few weeks. The team rose to the challenge despite hardships and strict safety protocols, making practices and meets ever more difficult to adjust and work around. Team members worked hard to surpass the expectations they set for themselves, encouraging one another to rise to the challenge.
This team represented themselves in meets with grit and commitment to be the best they could be. This was seen when the cross country team began their season by finishing 20th at the King of the Hill meet.
They began to improve as a result of the players’ efforts, as seen by their 17th place finish in the next competition.
The runners gradually put in the work by attending all practices and aiding one another in becoming better. That long-term devotion paid off in their next meet, a 305 classic event in mid-October, where the team ranked 9th, an impressive feat in the district.
Additionally, the Lady Falcons placed 7th in the Larry Women Invitational competition. What makes this achievement so remarkable is that it was not only their greatest scoring place of the season, but also a district meets, which makes achieving a high place much more difficult.
Continuing to improve their skill as a team, they proved able to employ the critical strategies that an excellent runner implements, allowing them to gain an edge at the appropriate times.
“This season, I believe that we progressed incredibly with the help of our coach and teammates. Many of us were able to hit our personal record and make it to regionals. I am very happy and proud with the outcome of this year’s season!” sophomore, Ximena Lara states.
When the final results of such performances are revealed, it should not be surprising to discover that the players had a hunger for success from the beginning of the season and gave it their all to succeed.
Cross country’s victory served to motivate and inspire the team’s younger members to strive harder in their future endeavors. Due to the initial hardship and the persistence of the players and their willingness to grow, this was an incredible season.
“This season was a great leap in the right direction coming out of the pandemic season. Many were struggling as it was a huge mess, but this year saw great improvements across the board with all our runners including myself. It can be attributed to our coaches and our competitive nature to always keep pushing each other,” said junior Alejandro Reyes.
Clearly, hard work does pay off as along with the competitive aspects of the sport, the friendships formed during the season will remain with the players for the rest of their lives. After seeing what our team is capable of, we can’t wait to see what they have in store for next season!
