Embracing the Joy of Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day landed on the 11th of May this year, and celebration was in order. On Sunday, people made sure whoever they loved felt special with some of these lovely suggestions.
The usual was taking them out to eat. Chains like Olive Garden and Cheesecake Factory were usually packed with others celebrating, so planning was important if that was your idea. Another, more decadent destination was Mandolin Aegean Bistro, a cozy Greek and Turkish restaurant. Also, The Rusty Pelican, a Key Biscayne classic that has beautiful views of the skyline and delicious seafood. Or even Crazy About You, a bistro that served Italian, Spanish, and American food near the waters, guaranteeing wondrous sights while you dined with your loved one.
If you wanted to venture somewhere after eating, a museum or a park was a lovely idea. Vizcaya Museum and Gardens and Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden were highly recommended.
A more personal approach could have been planning a picnic. Packing a basket full of their favorite treats and foods, paired with a bouquet, would have made their heart sing.
Flowers were always a great gift, no matter the occasion. But what flowers did you buy with so many colorful and oddly shaped choices? Roses were safe, the flower of love, as they say; however, there were plenty of others that conveyed a message of passion and gratitude, too. Love Me Nots represented true love and faithfulness, orchids were synonymous with beauty and fondness, and eustomas illustrated admiration and appreciation.
Or people chose flowers that meant a lot to them. Not everything had to be representative sometimes, the best choice was Lilacs because they liked them. The same could be said with candles; any scent would have done as long as they enjoyed it.
The central idea of Mother’s Day is honoring and celebrating those who have given care, support, and advice throughout life. It was more than just gallery walks and flowers, though that sweetened the day and made it more memorable it was about how you said, “I appreciate and care for you, too.” You didn’t have to do anything extravagant or extrapolate some grand scheme last minute to deliver that message. Sitting them down whether that was your mom, aunt, sister, grandma, or whoever had represented maternal love to you and just expressing your gratitude for their kindness made their day. Although the saying was that actions speak louder than words, words could have had just as much impact and sentiment as a fancy dinner.
Whatever people did, they enjoyed the day with those they loved and didn’t worry about whether they were doing it right or wrong. After all, it was a day of commemoration and appreciation, to show and say they cared, too.
