Everything that Happened in the Oscars
The Oscars, commonly recognized as the Academy Awards, are a series of awards that honor and recognize cinematic excellence. It is an honorable award given to those in the music and film industry who have undoubtedly beautiful performances and releases. Actors and singers who earn this award are permanently accredited for their talent.
Premiered this past Sunday, The 96th Academy Awards spanned just over three and a half hours, gathering a viewership of over 19.5 million people. This is the most significant engagement since 2020, where Korean film “Parasite” made history for being the first non-english film to win Best Picture.
Emma Stone is a famous actress known for her roles in La La Land, Cruella, Spider-Man, and many other films. This year, she humbly accepted her second Oscar for Best Actress in the movie “Poor Things”.
On stage, Stone honored the many deserving women in her category and generously said the award was being portioned with every cast member and crew member who shared the effort with her. She publicly thanked her mother, father, brother, husband, and daughter for their vibrant presence in her life with a gut-wrenching burst of emotion when she said teary-eyed, “My daughter has turned our lives’ technicolor, I love you bigger than the whole sky, my girl.” Her thoughtful and genuine speech touched many in the audience, especially those nominated in her category.
Cillian Murphy was also awarded for best actor and was visibly blown away by the opportunity. He is best known for his roles in Red Eye, the Dark Knight, and In the Heart of the Sea. In his speech, he gave his deepest thanks to the movie Oppenheimer and the people he worked with that made the film spectacular and tasteful.
Amongst the speeches were notable musical performances so astounding that jaws dropped. Ryan Gosling ripped the stage with his hit “I’m Just Ken”, which shocked Stone so much her dressed snapped. Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell performed the newly awarded “What Was I Made For”, which premiered in the movie ‘Barbie’ and evolved into Billboard Hot 100 worthy songs.
The Oscars was an action-packed ceremony that kept fans at the edges of their seats waiting to hear the winners be revealed. It shone light on talented artists who all deserved prizes and were imbued with beautiful speeches and songs. Events where all our favorite artists share a space are surreal and thrilling, so watching it is exciting. Now fans are expecting to see what the 2025 Oscars has in store.
