Falcons Finding their Scene at Club Rush
With the beginning of the year coming off to a great start here at John A. Ferguson High School, students and staff have settled in, preparing to make it a memorable year. But the most recent highlight of the year was Club Rush. 88 different clubs have taken part and displayed what they do best at JAFHS. Apart from the clubs, huge crowds of students became chaotic to get their hands on the Night Owl Cookies that were being served at Club Rush.
“Club Rush was a good event, but it was extremely crowded.” – Adam Lauredo 9th
Cookies, candy, accessories, and opportunities to take part attracted a lot of students and made it an enjoyable event. The gym was very active with people, clubs, and noise. However, some students may feel overwhelmed with the variety of choices or anxious when it comes to meeting new people. The best bet would be to sign up for the club that interests and appeals to you the most and just be confident.
“Club Rush was fun because it allowed me to see the various clubs the school offers. They gave out candy, snacks, and cookies.” – Wing Lee 11th
You may believe that clubs are pointless or serve no purpose because they don’t appeal to your personality. Many people believe the same thing before signing up for a club. However, there’s tons of clubs here that it’s almost impossible to find something that doesn’t interest you. Apart from making new friends and becoming familiar with something you find enjoyable, that isn’t the only benefit.
“Club Rush was good. The club that interested me was just the Chess Club.” – Ian Espino-De Jesus 9th
Colleges nowadays don’t only care about your grade-point average; they want to see what makes you yourself different from all other applicants. Clubs may possibly be the best category to include on your college transcript as it shows what you are capable of. The reason colleges take that as a big priority is the fact that it shows you are a well-rounded individual and can balance school with extracurriculars. College admissions also look for genuine, multi-year commitments and participations in any club in general. It is also helpful when you join a club that relates to your major. Here at Ferguson, you can easily join a club connecting to your major or one of your favorite hobbies. Students enjoyed the event and the multiple clubs display around the gym and their free cookies. It was a good opportunity to participate in clubs that represent you and people who have similar hobbies to you.
