Ferguson Holds Its Annual IB Pinning Ceremony

On February 28th, Ferguson held its annual IB pinning ceremony to officially recognize IB junior students as diploma candidates. Juniors with a GPA of 2.75 or higher received IB pins on stage in a special event celebrating their dedication.

The ceremony featured speeches, a multilingual reading of the IB mission statement, and senior IB students pinning their younger classmates as a symbol of mentorship and support. Junior Juan Navarro reflected on the event, saying, “The IB ceremony went well, and it was amusing since the senior that pinned me wanted it to be a fun experience. It was wholesome, as it felt like I was taking my big next step, and I could see the big picture of what it would be like when it’s my turn to pin a junior.” Families and teachers watched proudly as students marked this important milestone in their academic journey.

The pin, engraved with “School of the World”, represents commitment to the IB program and the challenges ahead. It serves as a reminder of the teamwork, perseverance, and responsibility required to succeed. Junior Amanda Labrada shared, “The IB ceremony was fun, and the senior that pinned me was very sweet. I had a great time with my friends.”

As the school’s most rigorous academic path, the IB program encourages students to push their limits, collaborate, and strive for excellence. Beyond academics, it fosters a strong sense of community. The pinning ceremony highlights the shared experiences and support among students, reinforcing the values of leadership, global awareness, and lifelong learning that define the IB journey.

This tradition not only honors students’ hard work but also inspires future IB candidates. Seeing their peers recognized motivates younger students to take on the challenge, strengthening the program’s legacy and commitment to academic excellence.
