Ferguson Opens Its Doors to Parents
Open house is when parents gather to meet the people guiding their kids into the next generation of learning and their bright futures. This insight is granted by getting to know the teachers and understanding what they ask of students on a day-to-day basis.
Furthermore, teachers encourage students to tell their parents to come join them at open house so the adults can not only understand the curriculum and certain expectations but also show them around the school and the overall daily routine. “Open house allows parents to understand and appreciate their child’s intense schedule… and the struggles of walking from class to class.” Mrs. Khan, an AP And IB English teacher elaborates.
Mrs. Sanabria, our theater teacher at Ferguson, adds “Being able to communicate with parents/ guardians during Open House makes it easier for teachers to get a hold of them if anything happens, and we can collect all the information we need if a student hasn’t updated their contact information either.”
One of the many resources that are included in the event is Fergusons very own resource fair which lasts from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, this allows parents to see the grand variety of clubs that Ferguson has to offer and their sponsors, including honor societies. Vittoria Pinero, the Vice president of the Drama club, explains, “It’s a place where we can demonstrate what our club is really about and show parents what their students are signing up for.”
Other than Open house being for parents, students are more than welcome as well, especially so students can show them around and to their classrooms, to prevent anyone from getting lost around the school. Some teachers will also provide extra credit to students whose parents and or themselves are present during the function. Open house can be an incredible experience for many families to enjoy a day in the life of their Ferguson student.
