Ferguson vs. Westland Hialeah
One of the more productive years of Falcons’ football has unfortunately come to an end in their first playoff game to Westland, Hialeah 34-14.
Though bittersweet, it should be stressed that this team really blossomed throughout the year, and defied expectations this season by winning their division and clinching a playoff berth for the first time in 11 years.
“Even though the season did not finish how we all wanted it to, it was still a very successful season,” said Senior, Javier Cifuentes. “We still won our district and played in a playoff game for the first time in many years,”.
The Falcons accomplished more than what was foreseen of them, showcasing an overall tenacity and sense of unison that surpassed previous units. The outcome may have been surprising, but since day one of training camp this team was determined and motivated to outplay their expectations.
Honing their craft as a collective unit, they managed to click at the best possible time and closed out the season on a three game winning streak going into the playoffs. This team did not have the most talent on the field on certain nights, however their overall grit and perseverance when facing adversity allowed them to pull through and put themselves in a position to steal close games.
“We did reach our overall goal which was winning our division and having a winning record,” said Coach Chew. “The players had some really exciting games where they had to fight back and overcome, which we did. It always feels great to get into the playoffs, it’s been a while since we have made it and it just feels awesome,” he added proudly.
This helps motivate and give the younger players on the team the feeling to come back wanting more. This season has been one remarkable season that will never be forgotten, from deflating blowouts to heartstopping game-winners. One of overall growth and development that when gelled together made Ferguson history. It’s not only just about the game, but the bonds and memories created throughout these couple months too. Now that wraps up the 2021 Falcons football season!
