Governor DeSantis Announces the Removal of the FSA
Ferguson students rejoice as Florida Governor Ron Desantis announces the FSA cancellations. The FSA will not be held after the 2020-2021 school year, meaning it will not be a high school requirement anymore.
Since this announcement, questions have been raised as to what will replace it but as of now, no new information has been said. “It was ineffective, took days to administer, and cannot be personalized,” shared Desantis.
Thus, suggesting an alternative in the form of a variety of shorter, more personalized tests throughout the school year.
“I have been in education for over twenty years and in my opinion, I think they will give multiple assessments per year to still make sure that the students are learning what they need to,” stated Ms. Albuquerque, following the sentiment from the governor.
As for how many assessments there could be each year, she did explain that they will probably happen either per quarter or semester.
Similarly to Ms. Albuquerque, Ms. Rodriguez, the Overseer of Curriculum, stated, “Although Governor DeSantis has decided to no longer require FSA testing in the following year, it’s not going to take away required testing in general and there will still be mandatory testing that will most likely replace the FSA.”
Cancelling the FSA does not signify the end of mandatory testing. It was instead identified as a system that was no longer deemed viable in the modern education system.
