Halfway Through the Year: Concerts and Music Festivals

We’re halfway through the year, and many tours and music festivals have come and gone. The past few years have been filled with new albums, songs, and upcoming artists; because of this, 2022 will be a year filled with tours. While there are many more concerts and festivals to come, the following are some of our favorites that have taken the stage so far.

  • Bad Bunny: World Hottest Tour:

Finishing the summer with a bang with a whopping two performances at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, performer Bad Bunny or Benito danced and sang in front of a crowd of 20,000 people.

He entered the stage with a colorful beach outfit resembling the visuals of his new studio album: “Un Verano Sin Ti,” and fans joined the summer party showing off sleek body cons or floral print tops.

Benito was joined on stage by many special guests and old collaborators to showcase popular tracks like “Safaera” and “Dakiti.” Ending the concert with his final track, “Despues de la Playa,” he brought a live band and dancers to give the fans a shining exit from La Playa.

  • The Weeknd: After Hours till Dawn Tour:

As the Weeknd opened a hot summer weekend with a theatrical performance following his latest albums “After Hours’ ‘ and “Dawn FM,” he lit up the stage with charisma and vocal talent in front of 70,000 people.

An enormous moon floated above the stage, setting the mood for the R&B singer who dominates the charts. His voice never faltered as he sang nearly 30 songs with almost no breaks.

Audiences grooved to the music as his voice vibrated through the speaker which included reworked versions of famous songs like “Wicked Games’ ‘ and “Sacrifice” not only left a memorable event but a new unique experience for the fans as they listened to their favorite songs in a new blinding light.

  • Olivia Rodrigo: Sour Tour:

Kicking off her Sour Tour in Portland, Olivia Rodrigo entered the stage, blasting “Olivia” by One Direction. The pop sensation made several hits throughout the past year, like “driver’s license” and “déjà vu,” and finally kickstarted her first tour across 23 states in the United States. ‘

Although some people might have underestimated Olivia’s talent due to her songwriting being about the teenage experience and teen love, many fans stated that the concert made them appreciate the songs even more.

At just 19 years old, Mis. Rodrigo has earned 3 Grammys awards, and while fans loved the art piece that earned her that prestige, they can’t wait to hear where her next project takes her.

  • Tyler the Creator: Call Me If You Get Lost Tour:

Tyler the Creator’s sixth studio album made a big splash last summer with refreshing sounds and artistic takes on his travels worldwide. Many of his concert sets resembled multiple experiences as he sat in his Rolls Royce and even surfed through the crowd in a small boat during his encore stage.

Not only were his sets impressive, but whenever he had a short break, he would interact with fans, talking to them in a skit-like manner. As a result, the crowd’s energy radiated throughout arena, and a shower of light appeared behind the performer as he ended the night with one of the more magnetic songs of the album, “Runitup.”

  • Lollapalooza:

This year’s Lollapalooza can be described as a music utopia among the millions who attended.

The lineup was nothing short of diverse, with acts such as Korean artist Jhope from BTS, Italian band Maneskin, and the Puerto Rican lead singer of The Marias.

This year was massive for Lollapalooza, as they partnered with Hulu to live stream the event. 400,00 people attended the event in Grant Park, and millions of others could enjoy it from the comfort of their homes.

  • Deftones: Gojira Tour:

Twenty-five years after releasing their debut album, the alternative heavy metal band finally stepped into the tour scene after gaining massive popularity from TikTok among teenagers.

Popular metal bands in the ’90s and 2000s received a new surge of fans with famous songs like “Sextape” and “Change (In the House of Flies)” blowing up on social media platforms.

After postponing their concert two times in the past two years, they made a buzzing performance with electrifying energy and edgy transitions throughout the concert.

The concert was filled with heavy strobe lighting and a big screen with different projections that accompanied the setlist.

The band also catered to their older fans by composing a setlist that reflected their loyalty. Selling out all their seats for their Texas shows, they made it clear that their presence is still known in pop culture today.

These concerts and festivals on this list are not the only ones that have happened this year, let alone the only noteworthy ones. Among the many musical events to take place this year, the six on this list are some of the ones that stood out. So far, in terms of music, this year has been a good one, and hopefully, the rest of the year will be just as good.
