Homecoming: Dancing Under the Florescent lights
With disco balls, retro fits, and a 70’s vibe, this year’s homecoming was like a movie. Students showed off their best vintage looks and swayed to the music, making it a night to remember. The excitement peaked when it was time to announce the homecoming king and queen, a moment everyone had been anticipating. There was a little something for everyone.
The homecoming took place at the Hilton Hotel, a pristine venue that added a touch of elegance to the night. In the waiting area, guests were welcomed by an arch made of disco-ball balloons. Inside, the main room featured a lively dance floor adorned with more disco ball balloons above, along with plenty of tables for seating all the guests. Food stands and bars lined the walls, offering a convenient spot to grab food like burgers and empanadas, and refreshments in between songs.
The overall vibe of homecoming was nothing short of fun and exhilarating. As Sophomore Andres Garcia described, “Homecoming was filled to the brim with emotion. Bright lights changing colors every so often and white tables set up all over (until someone spills something). It was quite great.” The dance floor was intense, packed with students who were all jumping to every song. The playlist was loaded with popular songs, and Travis Scott’s FEIN got the students so riled up that it played not once, but eleven times throughout the night.
For seniors, this homecoming was their last high school dance. Reflecting on the moment, Senior Flavia Pajon shared, “It is sad and nostalgic to see my high school years pass by one last time, but life goes on.” Senior Varasel Rodriguez Sordo shared this feeling, stating, “Although this will be the last homecoming I go to, I think it’s best to just live in the moment and not linger on that fact.” For them, the night was both a fun time with peers and a farewell.
Students were ecstatic to hear who would be awarded one of the rare homecoming titles. Alexia Ramlogan was announced as homecoming lady, an impressive achievement for a freshman. She, along with the homecoming king and queen, were called up to be recognized for their creative promoting campaigns. Alexia had put up posters around the school with her slogan from middle school on them saying: “She’s almost 6’2″ and she’ll represent you.” Alexia spoke, “When I heard my name being called as the winner of homecoming lady, my heart dropped, and I was in complete and utter shock. I couldn’t stop smiling and felt very honored to be earning this title and winning this freshman year.”
This year’s homecoming truly was a marvelous experience, with friends coming together to make lasting memories. From the retro-inspired outfits to the thrill of the dance floor, it was a night where everyone felt a sense of pure unadulterated fun. The Hilton Hotel provided a glamorous setting for a celebration that many will remember fondly, especially the seniors for whom this moment would mark the end of their high school run through. As the night ended, students left with stories and moments. The shared joy of a homecoming that felt just right.
