Movies and Shows Anticipated for 2026
Now that 2026 is here, we have some exciting upcoming movies and shows to look forward to this year. Falcons can expect a mix of old familiar stories and new stories on the big screen to entertain us. Last year’s hit movies included “Wake Up Dead Man”, “Marty Supreme”, “The Phoenician Scheme”, and “Avatar: Fire and Ash”, which received commercial success and critical acclaim.
One of the most anticipated blockbusters for 2026 is Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey”. The movie is based on the ancient Greek epic poem of the same name. The trailer, starring Matt Damon, has already seen much praise and popularity online. “It looks so cool, and I’m probably gonna watch it in the theater once it drops,” says junior Melanie Bermudez. Another film that is receiving a lot of attention online is “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping”. This prequel will mark the return of the beloved Hunger Games series. The premise will take place 24 years before the original trilogy, based on the book that came out early last year.
Other franchises are coming back with sequels or new installments: for example, “Avengers: Doomsday”, releasing in late December, will be the sequel to 2019’s summer blockbuster Endgame. “I’m excited for it because I love superhero movies, so the new one has a lot of potential”, says senior Giselle Lazo. Some films will be popular for their nostalgic appeal, like “Toy Story 5” and the live-action adaptation of “Moana”, both of which are in the works and hitting theaters sometime this year.
Upcoming shows are also looking promising. Marvel’s “Wonder-Man” and season 2 of “Blue Eyed Samurai” will be coming out early in the year, with many more series to be announced in the future. Notably, the highly awaited “Stranger Things” finale released on Netflix on January 1st, to varied reactions. Some people appreciated its tone, but others think it was too safe for such a monumental release. “I didn’t like the ending at all. I can’t believe there was so much hype for it,” says senior Alejandra Caso.
Everybody’s different tastes in films will vastly alter our opinions on this year’s offerings. Whether you’re watching at home or in theaters, alone or with friends, we hope you enjoy all the entertainment 2026 will have to offer.
