Movies to Watch During This Chilly Month
Cozy up in theaters to watch some of the new films coming out this chilly December–and spoiler, they aren’t all fuzzy holiday cash-grabs. These long awaited adaptations, thrilling sequels, and new stories are destined to either warm your heart or have you leaving the theater questioning everything. Here’s a list of the movies you definitely need to watch this month.
Y2K
This movie features Jaeden Martell, Rachel Zegler, Julian Dennison, The Kid Laroi, and Fred Durst. This crazy comedy takes us back to the early 2000s, following the story of two high school outcasts, Eli and Danny, attending a New Year’s Eve party they probably shouldn’t be at. Also in attendance is Eli’s crush Laura, so the stakes are high for him to make the best impression. Unfortunately, as the New Year’s ball drops, a bug gives life to all technology and threatens to destroy humanity. The film is set to release on the 6th.
Kraven the Hunter
Regarded as one of Spider-Man’s most ruthless enemies in comics, with his inhuman hunting skills and barbaric beliefs, Kraven has yet to make an official on-screen appearance until now. Set to release on the 13th, the film will focus on Kraven’s complicated relationship with his father and how it drives him to become a fearsome predator. Though Kraven is a part of Spidey’s rogue gallery, the webslinger will not feature in this movie as Kraven is the cynosure–just how he likes it.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim
The famed series Lord of the Rings, known for its depth and themes, touches on the animated medium with an anime movie. Also released on the 13th, the film’s story predates the original trilogy by 183 years. It will illustrate Helm Hammerhand and his family’s attempts to protect their kingdom while Hammerhand’s daughter, Hera, plans a personal counterattack on the enemy.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Mark your calendars for the 20th, as Sonic is making his epic return to the big screen, bringing thrilling surprises that fans won’t want to miss. The movie features an impressive cast, including Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, and Idris Elba. It is generating excitement for being just as captivating and epic as its predecessors, particularly with the introduction of everyone’s favorite edgy and brooding hedgehog, Shadow. With the appearance of this dark foe, Sonic teams up with Tails and Knuckles once more to defeat him. Shadow’s villainy is not without reason though, and the film expands on this and his tragic friendship with a human girl, Maria.
Babygirl
Landing in theaters on the 25th, this forbidden romance includes a worrying age-gap relationship and Nicole Kidman as the center of attention. Romy, an older woman and CEO, indulges herself in a romance with a young intern, Samuel, despite her already being married with children. The film will examine the power dynamics between the characters and the rarely seen age-gap trope.
Now that you’re in the know about what to catch, we invite you to dash down to your local theater and dive into this month’s cinematic offerings. Don’t miss out on the excitement—grab your friends, settle in, and get ready for a movie experience that will keep you buzzing with anticipation.
