Ready Player One Movie Review
Ready Player One is an exhilarating sci-fi movie directed by Steven Spielberg based on the novel written by Ernest Cline, published in 2011. The book and movie features Wade Watts, an ordinary citizen of the future. The movie takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where technology rules everything, and with a budget of $175 million dollars, the film and its retellings of the novel are extraordinary.
In the advanced technological setting, one program takes first place in every race: The Oasis. The Oasis is an all virtual world where players who sign up can enter using a virtual reality simulator. The main character, Wade, takes the identity “Parzival” in the game.
The plot begins when the creator of the oasis dies and has created a scavenger hunt for all players to participate in. The winner of the scavenger hunt would eventually rule over The Oasis and inherit all the money that it has made. Everyone in The Oasis is trying to solve the clues to get the first of three keys, that when all out together will unlock the prize.
However, along the way, the antagonists, I0I, are a huge company who are aiming to win the scavenger hunt for deceitful and selfish reasons. Throughout the movie and through all the dangers and challenges the hunt presents, Wade forms a group and together they attempt to find all three keys. The hunt for the keys was not easy, the task was hard, and all the levels were veiled with clever obstacles that made characters, as well as audience members, think long and hard.
The movie also throws in a dash of comedy for the older generations as well, making all kinds of hilarious references to everything about the 80s. So, whether or not you’re a sci-fi kind of person or not, this movie will have you hanging off the edge of your seat and rooting for the main characters the entire time. Don’t miss this must-see adventure! And get ready for Ready Player One.
