Spellbound by Wicked: A Magical Journey ‘For Good’
The magical land of Oz is vividly brought to life in the latest Wicked movie, based on the popular Broadway musical of the same name. While the first film amazed viewers, Wicked: For Good surpasses all expectations. The movie skillfully explores the transformation of Elphaba, the “Wicked Witch of the West,” and Glinda, the “Good Witch,” as they evolve from friends to rivals. Cynthia Erivo, portraying Elphaba, stands out by perfectly balancing strength and vulnerability, especially during her emotionally powerful performance of “For Good.”
As the story unfolds, Ariana Grande brings genuine depth, charm, and humor to Glinda. Together, Erivo and Grande create a believable friendship that feels both authentic and complicated—marked by similarities as well as striking differences. The movie dazzles with vibrant visuals, from the emerald glow of the city to detailed sets and costumes. Energetic dance sequences and music choices further enhance each scene. Under Jon M. Chu’s direction, the film strikes a harmonious balance between heartfelt emotion and enchanting fantasy, making it truly magical. The narrative also highlights themes of acceptance and individuality. Elphaba’s quote, “Everyone deserves a chance to fly,” inspires audiences, especially younger viewers, to be confident and true to themselves.
Joha Matinez, a 9th grader, shares, “The negative comments saying it’s predictable—well, obviously, it’s a story we’ve grown up with and come to love. But the truth is that this movie was everything we needed and wanted. Far from predictable. The pacing and cinematic excellence just kept getting better every minute. Seeing all the in-between details and the fantastic cast truly brought it to life. The performances, beautiful visuals, and meaningful story stood out.”
“I’ve seen Wicked three times now, and I have to say—I’m just so happy I could melt. Overall, I really enjoyed this movie. If you’re a musical theater fan, a Wizard of Oz enthusiast, or a supporter of the cast—like me, since I love Ariana Grande—you’ll most likely have a wonderful time watching Wicked,” said Daira Perez, a 10th grader.
In conclusion, Wicked: For Good is a visually stunning, emotionally rich, and thematically inspiring adaptation that breathes new life into a beloved tale. With standout performances, remarkable direction, and important messages about friendship and acceptance, this film is sure to captivate both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
