Sips & Music: An Inviting Evening at Ferguson’s Coffee House
The Coffee House here at Ferguson is an entertaining school event where theatre and choir students get to showcase their talents. The room is filled with music, laughter, and creativity. The performances feature songs, skits, and other acts that these students have practiced. This cozy setting allows everyone to sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. Before the event begins, there’s always a sense of excitement in the air. Performers rehearse their songs and lines one last time, friends find seats together, and the smell of hot chocolate and coffee fills the room.
When the show starts, you can feel the energy from both the stage and the audience. Each performance brings its own style. Some funny, some emotional, and some just plain fun, which keeps everyone engaged from start to finish. For many students, Coffee House is more than just a performance opportunity; it’s a confidence-building experience. Getting up in front of classmates can be scary, but the supportive audience helps performers feel comfortable and proud of themselves. Many students who participate say that Coffee House helped them gain the courage to perform again or try new creative things. It’s a place where everyone’s effort is appreciated, no matter how big or small the act is.
Another great part of the night is how it brings together different groups of students. Theatre and choir members collaborate, but even students who aren’t in those programs come to support their friends. It breaks down social barriers and allows people from all grades to mix and connect. Conversations happen over snacks, laughter fills the air, and new friendships often form during and after the performances. While the performances are happening, other students get to enjoy snacks and drinks provided at the event. It’s a great chance for everyone to talk, laugh, and support their friends on stage.
Irene Apau, a senior here at Ferguson, says, “I worked at the drink station for Coffee House and got to enjoy hearing the performances while giving people personalized coffee. I really liked hearing all the different talents that people like to show at Coffee House that they otherwise do not have a space for.” The Coffee House event brings students together, letting them socialize and connect in a fun, laid-back environment.
One of the best parts of this event is the variety of performances. Some students sing solos; others perform in small groups, and a few even share original songs or poems. Theatre students bring energy and humor with short skits or dramatic scenes that keep the audience entertained. Every act is unique, and it gives students the chance to express themselves in ways that the regular school day doesn’t always allow.
The event also teaches students important life skills without them even realizing it. Performers learn teamwork, time management, and how to handle stage fright. Organizers gain experience in planning, decorating, and running events smoothly. Even audience members practice kindness and support by cheering for everyone equally. These lessons go beyond Coffee House, helping students grow both personally and socially.
For new students, Coffee House is a great way to feel welcomed into the school community. It’s a friendly, low-pressure environment where they can meet people, discover hidden talents, and learn about the school’s arts programs. Watching others perform often inspires them to participate in future events. Many students who start as audience members end up performing the next year, excited to share their own creativity.
In the end, Coffee House is more than just an evening of music and theatre. It’s a celebration of student expression and unity. The laughter, applause, and shared moments make it a night everyone remembers long after it’s over. It reminds students that school isn’t only about classes and tests, but also about creativity, friendship, and joy. Coffee House continues to be a special tradition that brings the whole school together, year after year, in the best way possible.
