Strikes Hosted Every Friday in Miami Beach for Climate Action
Greta Thunberg, a sixteen-year old Sweden teenager is the founder of Fridays For Future. On August 20th of last year, Thunberg at age 15, began protesting outside the Swedish parliament in need for immediate action to combat climate change.
Many of these strikes have police approval. It is common to only allow a quiet, sitting protest. These events take place worldwide. The protest consists on taking time off from classes, or work, and participants demand action to prevent further global warming and climate change. Everyone is invited to be a part of it.
The way it works is the students peacefully protest, with posters, in front of the town hall nearest to them. This happens every Friday. Pictures are taken and posted with the hashtags: #FridayForFuture and #ClimateStrike
If school grades are keeping you from having a voice, the Belgium schools came up with an interesting solution. Most of schools have clock, all the participant(s) has to do is take a picture of it, with the time of the strike and post it with the hashtags. There are also other ways that different groups have used. For example, churches have their bells strike.
In collaboration with the CLEO Institute, a nonprofit aimed towards climate education, Fridays for Future hosts strikes every Friday in front of Miami Beach City Hall. Thanks to the efforts made by Miami youth at these strikes and during Global Climate Strike Day, Miami Beach declared a climate crisis earlier this month.
