Summer Olympics Recap
The Summer Olympics is a very anticipated and major event that comes around every four years. The Olympics began on July 26th, 2024, featuring 329 events with 32 different sports. The event brought ten thousand athletes from 204 nations.
There were four new additions brought into this year’s Olympics: skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing, and break dancing. Many viral moments during the Olympics were made along the way, giving this year’s competitions a more modern and exciting touch.
Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikeç made an impression with his approach during the 10-meter air pistol event. He won a silver medal while also being a massive highlight on the internet.
There was also a sentimental surprise marriage proposal during a medal ceremony by Huang Ya Qiong to his fiancée, Liu Yuchen. This romantic stunt amazed the whole internet.
The Summer Olympics this year presented the four-time Olympic gold medalist, Simone Biles. Simone is an American gymnast with 30 championship medals. While being the most famous competitor at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, she additionally won three gold medals and a silver medal for the women’s floor event. She won her 3rd gold in the 2024 Olympics.
Amazingly, at only 11 years old, skateboarder Zheng Haohao is the youngest Olympian competing in the Paris Summer Olympics. Zheng started skateboarding at the age of 7 because, “Somebody told [her] skateboarding was fun and so [she] bought one.”
As for the oldest competitor, Juan Antonio Jimenez Cobo is a 65-year-old Spanish equestrian. He was 41 years old when he competed in his very first Olympics!

The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics this year was enjoyable and incredibly entertaining for everybody around the world. It sets a precedent for the 2028 Olympic Games, which will be hosted in Los Angeles.
