With a chance for students to show their artistic talents, the DASH Academy at John A. Ferguson held auditions February 3, 2018.  Four strands of The DASH Academy held auditions for incoming freshman. These programs are Photography, Film, TV production, and Interior design. Students apply to be eligible to enroll in Fergusons artistic classes and start at a higher-level class, depending on the status of their audition.

The DASH program is an academy that aims to help students learn the arts, using classic skills and advanced technology, exposing them to a lot of content. The purpose of the academy is to help students build careers out of their talents, and skills.

Students must complete a set of tasks on the day of the auditions; those tasks depend on which academy students are applying to. Students were required to bring work they completed at home, and an assignment was also given on the day of the audition.

Students will also go through an interview process. This way teachers can see the student’s personalities and what they know about their artistic interest. Finally, students go through a written portion as their last objective of the auditions.

“For photography students brought in artwork from home, during the auditions they had to draw a still life picture (an arrangement of objects) and critique a picture describing what’s wrong with the picture and what’s good about it, and then we interviewed them,” photography teacher Mrs. Longueira said.

For the DASH design and arts program, the auditions are a requirement by Miami-Dade County Public School. These auditions are done throughout all DASH programs at all high schools In MDCPS to maintain the program equal and consistent throughout all schools in the district. Students that audition and make it will be accepted into the John A. Ferguson Design and Arts program, and will be roaming the halls alongside other students next year, where they will put hard work and time into developing their artistic talents.
