The Sound of Passion: The Winter Concert

Ferguson just recently hosted its highly anticipated winter concert, held by our new guitar teacher, Mr. Bermudez. The show played a wide variety of festive tunes like Jingle Bells, “Frosty the Snowman”, “The Nutcracker”, “Auld Land Syne”, alongside some timeless classics ranging from “Yesterday” by the Beatles to “Every Breath You Take” by The Police. There was a little something for everyone with all the intricate tunes, sparking waves of nostalgia and excitement throughout the duration of the show.

Even having some alumni participate in the concert once again, having as much fun as in the previous years, a chance to relive the camaraderie of the stage. For many of the participants, the chance to perform alongside their former classmates and friends was the highlight of the concert as they were able to rediscover the joy that came from said collaboration—relishing in their shared passion for music.

“Performing in the concert was great. It’s honestly never a dull experience for me personally whenever I get the opportunity to perform, no matter what I’m doing. I was particularly excited about this concert because I haven’t had the chance to perform for a while now, and it was just so refreshing to be able to have the chance to play on stage with my classmates and friends again after not being able to for so long. I honestly think this was a great way to kick things off not only for myself but as the first concert of the many more to come” shared senior, Patrick Villoria. A coexistence of creativity, nostalgia, and a celebration of love for music, imbedding a significance for their craft.

These Falcons showered the stage with liveliness and energy as they sang and played instruments, creating an atmosphere of warmth and connection, capturing the audience’s heart. Conducting a concert isn’t as easy as people think, it takes a ton of effort for both the performer and host. Their hard work shuns on the day of the performance as their leader guided them during practice time, helping them learn and grow as musicians.

Santiago Balcarcel, a senior, added, “Those who played in the concert did a good job at playing their pieces, you can tell they all worked hard and practiced plenty to get to where they were at. Personally, from being up on the stage, the teachers conducting was clear and helped bring the music together. The singers sang beautifully and really brought more life into the concert especially when playing ‘Auld Land Syne’. Overall, the concert was a good time for both the audience and the performers.” The performers brought a ton of spirt to the show even gathering high opinions and emotions of those watching amongst the crowd especially with the vocals when singing “Auld Land Syne” and “Every Breath You Take”.

With the mix of nerves and excitement, our musicians provided each other with encouragement and support as they performed. The crowd could feel the dedication and passion behind every song that these amazing musicians played, responding with lots of cheers and applause. “Participation was fun as we got to play a mix of songs like ‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy’, ‘The Nutcracker’, and ‘Yesterday.’ I enjoyed playing ‘Yesterday’ by the Beatles as I’m more into old time music. Playing with my classmates made this concert even more enjoyable as I got to share my passion with them and make memories with them even when as I was nervous throughout the show. We all supported each other during this time and helped each other when dealing with our nerves” Junior, Santiago Ruiz, said.

Ferguson’s winter concert was not only a display of musical talent but a celebration of collaboration and community. The music choices brought entertainment for everyone as it had sets of a diverse mix of classics, festive music, and even hilarious music choices. Overall, it was a night of shared memories, joy, laughter, and experiences for everyone.
