Turning Back Time
Fashion throughout the 20th century to now has drastically changed with time. Each decade seems to have its own signature style that differs with all the others. Some of it is even found in trends that are still happening today.
On the second day of spirit week, there was Decade day. It was a day for students who feel they’ve been born in the wrong generation to dress like they were from another decade. Students wore outfits from the 90s, 80s, and in some cases even 50s. Sophomore Scarlett Herdoiza’s outfit was from the 50s, inspired by Marilyn Monroe.
“My favorite thing about that era was the clothing and some of the music,” Scarlett said.
Other students picked decades a little closer to 2017, such as the 90s, 80s, and 70s. Junior Melanie Pardo’s outfit was inspired by both the 70s and 90s, but mainly the 90s. She said she picked these years because she believes the styles fit her personality.
“My favorite thing is that veganism started during this time (the 70s) because of the hippies,” Melanie said.
During both 1st and 2nd lunch, a DJ played music from older generations. Students dressed from numerous eras were all invited to show off their outfits and enjoy the music as they ate lunch. One of those students was Senior Erika Lugo-Bonet whose outfit was from the 80s.
“I picked the 80s because it just looked like fun, the big hair and big jackets are a really cool look in my opinion,” Erika said.
The variety of looks in the hallways was obvious and made for a very interesting day. It was also very highly anticipated. Whether you wore baggy mom jeans or long poodle shirts, it’s safe to say everyone had fun dressing up for the day.
