Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Venom, the goofy and shapeshifting entity from Marvel’s comics has recently been shown in Marvel newest movie, Venom: Let There Be Carnage. This action-packed movie has grossed over $352.6 million and has become one of the most iconic Marvel movies of the twenty-first century. Even after this film came out, a second movie was already desired by many Marvel enjoyers. The initial release date was in October 2020, but it was pushed back due to the pandemic. This delay was settled once it was moved to October 1st, 2021.

Unfortunately, this movie felt a bit underwhelming and disappointing. Many had high expectations that Marvel studios did not deliver. The majority of scenes felt rushed. It was hard to follow what was going on in the plot with everything happening so quickly, and this made watching the movie a difficult task.

A lot of the characters that were supposed to be highlighted ended up being displayed as if they were side characters. It felt as though they were just fillers rather than being fully integrated into the storyline. The main villain’s girlfriend, Shriek, was barely involved and the viewers didn’t get to see much of how she had any role in influencing the narrative. She would just randomly appear and there was only one time that she was really shown was when Cletus, the main villain, did something for her. Not to mention, Venom got so much weaker in this movie for no apparent reason.

Even one of the main characters, Venom, was extremely downgraded. His power, compared to how he was portrayed in the comics, seemed exponentially weaker.

However, I did like that Venom’s character was explored more openly in this movie. The viewers were able to learn more about his personality, rather than just his origin like in the first movie.

The shocker of the movie came after the finale though, as it dropped the first real bombshell for what is already the most anticipated Spiderman movie of all time that releases in a short month and half on December 17th.

The concept of a Spiderman multiverse will include the characters from all three versions like rumored villains galore such as Doc Ock, the Sinister six, Green Goblin, and now the confirmed Venom. Since the cliffhanger ending included Peter Parker’s identity being revealed by iconic comic and cinematic franchise reporter, J Jonah Jameson, and based on this ending to Venom, it seems like the opening of the said multiverse will be centered around the now known name of Spiderman.

Overall, the movie was fun to watch, but I think the fast pacing could be worked on. The personalities of the main characters should have also been shared more like in other Marvel movies. I would recommend this movie if you just want to watch something entertaining and enjoyable.
