Start with hello is a movement started by Ms. Vigoa, this awareness program was created to bring attention to social isolation in school and communities. So far it has been so successful that it was recognized state-wise, and our school has been visited by one of the parents who lost their kid in the Sandy Hook massacre.

Students come together to show positivity in our school every day. The students who have participated in this program have done an activity each day of this week; Monday we had “Hey Day” you might have seen people around the school wearing tags with their names on it, this day is for students to get to know each other.

Tuesday it’s all about positivity, all around the school there are post-it notes filled with positive messages that you can give to someone going through a hard time or you can keep it yourself.

Wednesday is “No falcon flies alone” day, here all the participants from the start with hello movement walk all around the school talking to people who sit alone, this activity really focuses on kids who might feel lonely and bring comfort to them.

On Thursday is “Plan a pledge” which involves planting a tree in the courtyard, this tree is called the Mirai which is a Japanese word for future, students will write a pledge and these will be put all around the tree, and so as the tree grows so it will show how we control our future, and this is to raise awareness when it to mental Illness.

Friday is “Speed friend day” this day will take part in the gym and students will meet a new person each minute, this is to get more comfortable with the different person in the student. This movement really focuses on bettering the school and truly bringing to importance how many kids might not feel comfortable in our school.

The Start with Hello movement has made an impact on so many lives. It is a privilege that our very own school is a part of it.
