Subject Selection
There is a huge variety of classes you can take, but how do you pick the best ones? It all depends on your interests and what you think you’ll do well in. For example, if you are interested in understanding the scientific study of the human mind and its functions, then psychology is the best choice for you. In this class, you do interesting projects, labs, and learn about some incredible experiments that have helped us figure out what we know about human behavior today.
For animal lovers, veterinary is the one for you. In that class, you will learn about animals and their medicine. You also learn how to care for animals with the help of our in-school farm. There’s a variety of animals living there, such as sheep to chickens. Students also bring their own pets, for example, their very cute dogs.
“Veterinary class was my first choice when I picked my electives. I can’t wait to be around the animals and learn about them,” Gabriela Luque said.
If you aren’t really into veterinary and prefer more artsy classes, Ferguson also offers many art programs. One of them that is free for anyone of any academy to take is ceramics. Student Marcella Navas said that ceramics was her personal favorite out of all the other electives.
“In that class, you work with pots and other articles made from clay hardened by heat,” she said.
Debate would be a good class for you if you like discussing different topics and learning other people’s points of view. It also builds confidence in students and helps them get more comfortable with public speaking.
“I really enjoy debate class because we always have formal discussions in which opposing arguments are put forward,” Junior, Juan Ferreira said.
Of course, there’s plenty of other electives to take that go with anyone’s interests such as journalism, theater, early childhood, driver’s ed, culinary, sports medicine, and more. It all depends on what appeals to you. Just remember to pick wisely, the last thing you want is to be in a class you’re not too fond of for about 180 days of school.
