This Year’s Spirit Week

The week leading up to homecoming is such an exciting time of the year, whether it be the homecoming proposals, choosing the perfect outfits, or… SPIRIT WEEK! When it comes to activities for the week of October 11th, Falcons have the privilege of dressing up for Decades day, Tacky Tourist day, College day, White-Out, and Celebrity day.

Starting off the week with Monday is Decades Day. Students get to come in their best retro outfits, leading with a throwback dance-off during lunch.

Vice-president for SGA’25, freshman Alessandra Vega, shared, “I’m most looking forward to Decades day since I really like the idea of going back into the past and wearing the trends from other decades. I’m also really excited to see what other people wear!” Decades day is one of the most creative and fun days of this week, encouraging us to really look back and choose an outfit that we would’ve worn at that time. It’s a nice, refreshing change to try out a unique style that we normally wouldn’t try if it weren’t for Spirit week. Whether it be tie dye shirts or leather jackets, let’s take advantage of this day to really enjoy ourselves through what we wear.

Continuing the fun, Tuesday is Tacky Tourist Day, and the leading lunch activity will be the limbo, so grab your suitcases because you don’t want to miss it. There have been a few minor changes since last year’s Tacky Tourist Day so make sure to read through them to figure out your clothing options.

Keeping the entertainment going, Thursday will be White-Out, in which students come in all white to showcase their school spirit. That same day, Ferguson will be hosting their second lunch pep rally of the year, with performances and games to follow.

Closing off the week is Friday with Celebrity day. On this day, students will be able to portray their favorite idols or become one themselves, with a fashion show during lunch, to showcase their best outfits. 

Sophomore, Briana Gutierrez, mentioned, “I’m really excited for Celebrity day; I’m planning on recreating a Harry Styles-inspired outfit.” We can’t wait to see what other unique outfits our Falcons come up with.

Onto Homecoming tickets, what a huge deal! Of course, this year, Homecoming is an extra essential part of the high school experience since for the past two years, we haven’t had any in-person dances nor activities. Therefore, our Ferguson leaders have decided to host Homecoming in a separate venue from the school, only allowing for 400 tickets to be sold. That led to a huge disadvantage considering that not everyone knew ticket sales would be purchased on OSP. “I think they should have made an announcement about the tickets being on sale or sold the tickets by grade level instead,” said sophomore, Natasha Ledesma.

Thank goodness Mrs. Rae came to the rescue.

There is now a form out for students who did not get a chance to purchase tickets. It provides us with several solutions such as a winter formal, grade level dances, an opportunity to be placed on a waitlist for tickets, and even being refunded for purchased tickets. This way, everyone we wishes to buy tickets can finally gain access to them in a more efficient way.

Next up, Hoco proposals! One of the most exciting times of the year is when you get to ask somebody out to this wonderful dance. Whether it be a simple friend, best friend, or that special someone, it is always a thrill. Whether it’s by the stage, somewhere in the courtyard, out in the fields, or even off-campus, the rush one gets is immeasurable. When asked how she felt while proposing to her girlfriend, junior Kaylee F. said, “I knew she was gonna say yes but I still got butterflies.” It’s crazy how we could be so close to the ones around us, like our own significant others, but we still get nervous when asking them to come to a dance with us.

With the Homecoming theme being the Hollywood Red Carpet, and a week to showcase our school spirit, this year’s Homecoming is sure to be one for the books. We hope students dance the night away in their dazzling outfits out on the red carpet, surrounded by their Falcon family!
