Rio De Janeiro: Homecoming Pep Rally Recap

Dance off! The Homecoming Prep Rally spun off on Friday, October 2nd to glowing reviews from students. During last block the Friday before the highly anticipated Homecoming, students were whisked off to the gym, where trees and neon lights lit the building into a bright, colorful wonderland. The theme for the Homecoming Prep Rally this year was Rio De Janeiro,
which of course meant that tropical paradise was in the house! ‘The Homecoming Pep Rally felt different from the rest. Students felt like there was exceptionally more spirit and great energy.

”I especially loved the marching band!” Said, Junior Adriano J. Mendoza, who came out of the event fresh with joy.
Once students were led to their respected bleachers through the tropical atmosphere, the lights flickered and the fun began.
The event following was a blur of joy with cheerleaders, students, sports teams, and even teachers storming the court for various events.

Starting with the MCs, they hyped up the crowd with their rowdy dancing and cheerful selves, never forgetting to throw the shirts that everyone jumps hoping to snatch one. Not everyone will get a shirt, but that doesn’t mean that students won’t try to jump up on the stands, barely avoiding a fall and crushing others while they desperately try to catch one.

The Fusion cheerleaders quickly danced their way onto the court after the MCs retired from the spotlight for the moment. Dipping, twisting, and twirling with fellow cheerleaders, Fusion members happily showed their skills to the school, proving that
they are and always will be a staple of the school and pep rallies themselves. Next came the teachers. They walked onto the court, ready for a round of Tug and Row with their own students. It was a hard fight, but even though the teachers had an army
of students on their team, the other side took the crown as they overwhelmed the teachers and their young partners, taking the win.
Finally, jumping into the highlight of the event, the Salsa Dance segment of the pep rally happened. While the lights were bright during the Pep Rally, before the dance happened, everything dimmed dark and was replaced by a neon red color. All the
students cheered as suddenly the Homecoming court appeared on the basketball court itself, dressed up. Once the music played, the students on the court performed the Salsa dance, swirling and gliding across the smooth floor, working with their partners to
create a spectacular view for everyone. Once the dance ended, everyone cheered, praising the dancer’s rhythm and choreography.

“The Homecoming Pep Rally was really nice. I got to see a lot of our school’s sport teams and got to see our incredible dance and cheer teams!” Sofia Rojas, 11th grade, commented on the event.

The Pep Rally may be over, but this day for sure will be remembered in the hearts and
minds of everyone who went. Go Homecoming! Go Falcons!
