Taking A Dive Into Successful Swimming Season
The swimming season of 2023 will always be remembered for the incredible achievements, teamwork, and unforgettable moments between our athletes. From competing at GMACs to Districts, our swimmers wrapped up the season at Regionals on November 4th. The team exhibited their determination and sportsmanship to become better during the practices held at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School every Monday and Wednesday from 3:15 pm to 5:15 pm. The team spirit shone the brightest during swim meets where they supported and cheered on their teammates in their events. Coach Fernandez, played a significant role in building the team’s confidence and resilience by pushing them to be a symbol of excellence.
“This was the first season where I can say that swimming felt like a family,” Coach Fernandez implied. The bond between a coach and their player is very parental, the growth and challenges they witness their players go through is bittersweet, especially watching the seniors move onto a new big step in life.
“Despite the unexpected challenges, we had a memorable season full of hardworking swimmers, and I am proud of their accomplishments,” shares senior captain Sophia Rosales. This season wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the community and great efforts of the Coach to plan everything to a tee. There was much disruption from weather delays to personal setbacks that tested our swimmers and made all the victories much sweeter.
Many swimmers went out of their comfort zones, trying out different styles of swimming and getting themselves out there. One swimmer competed as a part of a relay team in regionals for the first time! “I am so grateful for my team and my coach for giving me this opportunity to swim at regionals. I got to experience this nerve-wracking event with much support that I could fall back on and getting to do this in my last year of high school was truly memorable,” shared senior swimmer, Genesis Rodriguez.
“I am grateful to have been chosen as a captain to guide the team with all the obstacles faced. The pride I felt for all of us was all worth it at the end! At the end of the day we are all a family no matter the outcome of the season,” Senior, Izaiah Vilarchao said. It is evident that the teammates are feeling proud and happy for one another.
As the season came to a triumphant end, all that’s left is the annual dinner to celebrate the accomplishments of the season and announce the captains for next year. Much gratitude to family, friends, and staff that have shown unwavering support towards our falcons. Unforgettable experiences were surely made between the senior members of the team, we are sure to look forward to the next season with much passion and talent ready to be shown!
