Super Bowl Sunday Traditions

The big game between the Kansas Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles isn’t the only thing that happens on Super Bowl Sunday. There are several unique traditions that are normally associated with this day, and people tend to come together to enjoy food, fun, and family time.

Even though millions of people watch the championship football game, the Super Bowl has grown into an event that has something to offer everyone. To many, the focus of Super Bowl Sunday is the party. Whether it is a simple get together or a big bash, hosting or attending Super Bowl parties has become traditional. People incorporate team flags, shirts, and other football-related decor into their fun. It’s not just about the game, it’s about the company, the atmosphere, and the support of your team. Family, friends, and neighbors all come together to celebrate regardless of their interest in football. “My entire family comes together and throws a big party, with music and so much food just for the game; it’s so much fun,” said 10th grader, Chelsy Medina.

Food is an essential component of the Super Bowl, and many people use this day as an excuse to fire up the grill or have a barbecue. Some of the popular Super Bowl snacks include burgers, hot dogs, wings, and nachos. This is a time for many to spend quality time with their family and friends while eating and chatting.

For those who want to make the game more interesting, Super Bowl Squares is a fun tradition. This is a form of family friendly gambling where people draw up a board with squares corresponding to the possible scores at the end of each quarter. As the game continues, people are all eyes and ears to the squares as people try to claim a prize. It is a way of making everyone participate without having to focus on the actual game.

One of the most important parts of the Super Bowl are the halftime shows. People’s interest in the halftime performance draws significant viewership to the event, almost as much as for the football game itself. Watching singers you love partner up to display a beautiful ensemble of dance and music is riveting and never fails to exceed expectations. Halftime show excitement buzzes long after the event has passed and creates a slew of trends. “I only stay for the halftime show, it’s the best part of the Super Bowl; I love seeing who performs each year, stated 11th grader, Anaid Rojas.

Even during game breaks, the commercials keep fans gripped to their screens. The commercials are funny, creative, and sometimes touching. Some people look forward to these moments as much as they do the game. The commercials are a significant part of the discussion and debate after the event, thus making them a tradition in themselves. Surprise actors and singers are always featured and makes the ad much more fun to watch.

Super Bowl Sunday is as much about family and togetherness as it is about football. From helping to prepare the food to sitting down and watching the game, the day is a chance to spend time. It is a time when the old and the young—parents, grandparents, and kids—come together to be excited. Super Bowl Sunday is not just the final game of the football season, it is a day of celebration, of tradition, of community, and specially of fun. Whether it is throwing a party, grilling a feast, playing Super Bowl Squares, or watching the halftime show, these traditions are special for millions of people.
