Bowling Season Review

Let’s see that strike! The theme of this season in Ferguson bowling was definitely one of
facing adversity, and learning how to overcome any obstacle in their paths to still produce in
games.

Despite the trials and tribulations of a multitude of quarantined, cancellations and
postponing of events, including games as well as practices, they adapted to become one of the
most dominant teams in the county. As this season comes to a close, the narrative of a young
team figuring themselves out and their chemistry out beating the odds to make it to States
resonates in Falcons’ Sports.

“I did not have many expectations because lots of seniors were gone, they graduated,
and I did not know what young players were going to come in. Luckily, I had some good
young freshman and sophomore bowlers, and other schools lost their top bowlers as
well, and we were able to make it to the state tournament.” stated head coach Richard
Bellon.

This season both girls and boys took home plenty of wins. Furthermore, they have a 11-1
match record, 75-9 game record, and each game is worth seven points. This is one of the best
scores our falcons have had, and it shows compared to previous years since they placed runner
up in both states and districts.

This success was due to the aforementioned underclassmen and many newly freshly minted
members on the team becoming quickly acquainted so the team could fully utilize their talents.

They defied expectations throughout the season and once they rallied momentum,
cementing their run by placing 2nd in districts, thus setting expectations high for districts.

However, the trip to Orlando ended in disappointment as they flopped. Their most
prominent strength, which was the ability to flow as a cohesive unit failed when many of the
team’s mainstays unfortunately crumbled under the pressure.

“We were inexperienced, the other bowlers were a lot better than us and our
bowlers got intimidated and didn’t bowl to their fullest potential.” stated Bellon.
The miracle run had ended, and even with the 31st place finish, the Falcons are
holding their heads high after this season.

“We were inexperienced, the other bowlers were a lot better than us and our
bowlers got intimidated and didn’t bowl to their fullest potential.” stated Bellon.

No one expected this team in the middle of a rebuilding phase to reach this level
of excellence. Therefore, the hopes for next year once these talented bowlers have
another year under their belts are high.

“In states, since this was the first time this team had gone, they got motivated to
get better to try to make it to states again next year and make it to the second cut.”
Wow! Sounds like a great season to me, especially with all the promising bowlers we
have.” stated Girls Head Coach Marcela Del Rosario.
