Storms of the Heart: A Wuthering Heights Review
Coming out on Valentine’s Day, the new adaptation of Wuthering Heights aims to focus on the romance between characters. This new film received mixed reviews, with a 59% Rotten Tomatoes score and a 6.3/10 rating on IMDb. There were many people who loved and hated the movie.
In this adaptation, we follow Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff as they grow up in the harsh Earnshaw household. Their estate is called Wuthering Heights, where Catherine and Heathcliff grew closer through their mischievous bond. Over time, their bond and romance grew. Meeting the family next door changed everything between them, and Heathcliff would do anything to get Catherine back, even if destructive habits interfere.
This movie features Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. Playing other important characters are Hong Chau as Nelly Dean, Shazad Latif as Edgar Linton, Alison Oliver as Isabella Linton, Martin Clunes as Mr. Earnshaw, Ewan Mitchell as Joseph, Charlotte Mellington as young Catherine, and Owen Cooper as young Heathcliff.
Fans of the film loved the intense push and pull between Catherine and Heathcliff. Though many thought the intimacy was overdone, they sympathized with the couple that couldn’t be together, though they loved each other like soulmates.
However, the ones who disliked the films held different reasons for it. The costume design was one reason, as people believed the designs could have been more true to the period. Deeper than that, though, was the butchering of the original novel. They criticize the romanization of toxic relationships and the characters’ fluctuating personalities.
Nevertheless, the 2026 film was a must-see for many. It has received one nomination for Best Music Supervision for a Trailer at the Guild of Music Supervisors Awards. The beauty of the cinematography is something even people who aren’t fans of the movie can agree on and appreciate. This movie has qualities that everyone can enjoy.
