Falcons kick off the 2017-2018 school year!
After three months of vacation, school is back in session. On Monday morning, August 21, 2017, students arrived at a school filled with many changes. Teachers from previous years found in new locations, a wide range of new staff members, and new lunch meals were included in the long list of changes that happened over the course of the last three months. However, a tradition that remained the same was the C-day; meaning students would visit all eight of their classes in one day.
When asked, students expressed mixed emotions regarding the C-day schedule. Some believe it to be too hectic, and others think it’s a great way to introduce the long awaited school year.
“I think the first day’s schedule is a great way for us to meet our teachers, and it serves as a transition from summer vacation to the school year,” Junior and Varsity Cheerleader, Jazlyn Roman said. Roman’s friend, however, had a different opinion. “I believe that it is too much to take in on one day, especially for freshmen, who are here for the first time,” Sophomore Victoria Perez said.
Traffic within the school was chaotic since some students were walking, parents were dropping off kids, horns were beeping, nervousness in the air and excitement was appreciated for the majority of the cases. Students of all grades crowded the entrances to the buildings, and a huge amount was reported as being late to class. Traffic is known and expected to behave this way; however, students should have planned accordingly to avoid being late since first impressions matter for the student-teacher relation.
“I truly enjoyed my last first day at Ferguson. I wore my crown, and took pictures at the 2018 red carpet and throughout the day at school, after waiting four years,” Senior Ivan Lopez said.
Seniors were welcomed with a red carpet leading up to balloons that expressed the graduating year of 2018. They were encouraged to take pictures while wearing their senior crowns on the red carpet throughout the day. A geo-tag on Snapchat allowed them to show it was their last first day on social media. Overall, students were excited to be back for the 2017-2018 school year.
