Homecoming: A Night Under the Stars

John A. Ferguson’s Homecoming Dance was hosted on the evening of Saturday, October 13, after a wild week of pep rallies and spirit celebrations took the school by storm. Both underclassmen and upperclassmen alike were highly anticipating this event, regardless of it being their first Homecoming or last. For just one night, students set aside their differences and social cliches and danced their Saturday night away.

Many Freshmen and Sophomores had mixed opinions about the event itself.  Aytana Gonzalez, a Freshman, says that Homecoming was “not as overwhelming as I expected for my first Homecoming, and the hot dogs and pizza were great!  I had a great time dancing with my friends and enjoying the ambiance, but I didn’t really pay much attention to the homecoming court results.”

Then again, an anonymous Sophomore stated that the dance was “too crowded and overpriced for what it was. I didn’t enjoy the food, but I guess I can say that I had a nice time with the people I came with.” Overall, reviews from the underclassmen were evenly balanced, as many had neutral opinions.

However, Juniors and Seniors, who are also eagerly awaiting their Prom, had many positive opinions about the dance. One Junior, Jessica Hernandez, especially enjoyed Homecoming and said that it was “overall a good experience. The venue was beautiful, I loved the theme, everything was set up wonderfully. The staff was very kind and helpful, and the music was live. However, there could have been better food. For $55, I expected to eat something other than chicken tenders.”

Being the first, or even last, high school dance for many students, we can all agree that this year’s Homecoming Dance was indeed memorable. Regardless of our varying opinions, many of us will treasure that night, or might even be compelled to experience it for themselves next year.
