Boys’ Basketball Faces Emotional Senior Night
The Senior Night for the Ferguson Boys’ Basketball team was held on Thursday evening at The Cage. They had a significant win against South Miami, securing a 77-55 victory. As it was their last home game of the season, playoffs are on the horizon, and they are scheduled to play against Coral Gables on Tuesday. The winner of this match will face Christopher Columbus in the 7-A District 16 Playoffs.
Senior Night was a memorable event for the boys. At around 7 pm, they walked onto the court with their friends and family. They received various gifts, including balloons, and a framed jersey, among other things. “Senior Night was very bittersweet, it was sad watching my seniors I have known since freshmen year play their last home game, it’s the end of an era,” shares Junior Guard, Donovin Londono.
That night, plenty of tears were shed among the guys who had grown up playing basketball together since elementary and middle school. “That night was a memorable experience with my teammates, coaches, and loved ones. I will always cherish the moment when we played together for one last time,” Senior Guard, Jeffrey Gonzalez includes.
As each senior was called back to the bench one by one, their fellow Ferguson students, family members, and friends began to chant. They chanted “We want Jhorman” in honor of one of the seniors who had torn their ACL midway through the season. Since this was their last home game ever, the coaches heard and responded to the crowd’s request. They allowed Jhorman Gomez to enter the game to make one last shot, which turned out to be a very sweet and special moment. “I was able to get one last shot on the court which made me very happy, I had a good 4 years of high school basketball, and I am glad to end it with this same team,” Senior Guard, Jhorman Gomez shares.
The time and location for the Coral Gables game is yet to be announced. The winner of this game will have to face the number 1 ranked team in the Nation, Christopher Columbus. We wish them luck and hope that the season continues for a longer period.
