Safety First: Navigating New Regulations

Following the recent adoption of emergency measures across Florida public schools, John A. Ferguson has implemented several protocols to ensure that the campus remains safe. Though these regulations were introduced the year before, their execution has increased with the new academic year.

One instance is the fire drills, in which each person is forced to participate. If there is an actual emergency, the school must also inform the staff and students about it. Drills like this and others are held at random times to prepare students for any situation.

A code red practice, which simulates an active shooter scenario in the vicinity, is another of the numerous drills that Ferguson must conduct. During the lockdown, students need to shut off all electronics and lights should be turned off. Students should also enter their designated safety zone, which is found in each classroom’s corner. All these procedures are necessary to ensure the safety of students and faculty across Florida.

Another important requirement at Ferguson is the wearing of school IDs. Strict enforcement of this policy means facing consequences if you are caught without your ID visibly displayed around your neck. The school IDs are considered just as important as any other aspect of the dress code, and they are essential for accessing certain areas of the school, like the cafeteria. While some students may find wearing their IDs constantly bothersome, they are necessary to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff.

Without question, school shootings are one of the main reasons why parents and teachers find wearing IDs to be quite serious. Tragedies can be avoided by distinguishing between students and non-students. Student IDs are not meant to do anything but increase safety in schools across Florida.

In order to promote a safe school environment, it is essential that all safety protocols are followed correctly.Ensuring a safe school environment requires strict adherence to all safety protocols.
