Ferguson’s Got Talent

Rock n’ Roll, passion, excitement, and massive amounts of fun are all the side effects the audience experienced when they attended Ferguson’s Got Talent this past Wednesday. The talent show, hosted by two of Ferguson’s very own: Ashley Acevedo and Oscar Torres, took place in the auditorium at 7 p.m. and welcomed three incredibly amazing judges: Melissa Adan (NBC 6 news reporter), Luis Diaz (Comedian and radio personality), and lastly Louis Calveiro (Fashion correspondent and Stylist). The show had a very evident Moana theme which was demonstrated by decorations throughout the auditorium, including the stage design.

The night began with an eccentric performance of an original song “Wisteria” by the band Point Blank, which was full heavy rock and left the audience energetic and wanting more. The next act was greeted with a warm round of applause from an excited crowd; Fritz and Spence delivered a light-hearted comedy act titled “The Line”, which included many relatable moments about relationships and resulted in heavy laughter. When these comedians left the stage, our next act arrived and moved everyone with her passionate and beautifully delivered performance of “Rise”- a song that performer Emily Perdomo says “…means a lot to me.” Her performance was full of emotion and had the audience clapping during and after her performance.

The show continued with an enthusiastic contemporary dance by Geraldine Torres, who was followed by Jennifer Dove who sang her rendition of “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” and was joined on stage by Geraldine later into the performance. When Dove’s performance ended, the audience more than welcomed Jonathan Vargas, who sang “The Last Five Years”. The next three acts had the audience in for a treat; first, senior Miriam Akinsoji who performed an original song “Fill Me In,” which was dedicated to her family. Next came Arianna Montero, with her fresh spin on the song “Riptide,” which she stripped down and played on the piano while she sang. Lastly, Jeremy Arana and Joshua Giron-Khalil, who were a freestyle act, said: “Give us three words and a beat.” Altogether the audience loved it. After their act, the show had a brief 5-minute intermission, in which the audience chatted and patiently waited for the next part of the show.

Mabel Perez kicked off the show after the intermission with her own performance of Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb” while a slideshow of her and her family played behind her. During this performance, the crowd joined in by swaying glow sticks to the beat of the song. When Mabel ended her song and exited the stage, Alejandra Correa took the stage and won the people over with a fun and entertaining monologue titled “Teachers!!” which portrayed what the life of a high school student is like. Nicolas X. Horne came next with a contortionist act called “The Magic Pretzel Act.” Soon after, Giselle Martinez performed the song “Rise up,” and the audience loved it to say the least. Before the next act was introduced, the two hosts interacted with the guests, then introduced Alex Peralta who sang “Too Good at Goodbyes” by Sam Smith. Throughout the duration of the performance, she was honored with various rounds of applause, and the audience helped set the mood by turning on their phone flashlights. Though our next act, Brandon Somarriba, was a little sick he still gave 110% with his act “Trials and Tribulations”

Jose Sanchez was up next and accompanied himself on the guitar during his performance of the song “Promise,” which could possibly be another original song. When he was done, Serena Louchin gave a heartfelt performance of “The Rose” by Bette Midler, which she dedicated to her mother in the shows’ program. Next, the show closed with a dance routine by Ashley Rey, to the song “Have You Ever,” which was a very anticipated performance. After her performance, the two hosts were presented with the heart of TeFiti by Maui to keep the Moana theme. For the presentation of prizes and awards, all the participants took the stage where the winners were revealed. Ashley Rey took third place, and second place was granted to Jeremy and Joshua, and finally, first place was voted to Giselle Martinez who also won the heart of TeFiti. After the show ended there was excitement radiating through the auditorium as parents and friends congratulated the performers.
