Pop Magic Unleashed: Sabrina Carpenter’s Shimmering Soundtrack
After releasing her hit album Short n’ Sweet almost a year ago to the day, pop star Sabrina Carpenter has wowed us once again. On June 11, 2025, Carpenter teased her upcoming album Man’s Best Friend, and the long-awaited release was finally put to rest on August 29, 2025. Now that it’s been out for a couple of weeks, it has garnered a mix of both praise and criticism. The album, in no particular order, tells the story of being in a relationship with an immature partner and the various tolls this can take on someone. Carpenter’s songs get this message across particularly well, as online audiences quickly picked up on it.
Initially, the album received criticism for its cover, but that issue has rather died down since Carpenter released an alternative option. Other than that, its release has gone rather smoothly. The album consists of 12 tracks: “Manchild,” “Tears,” “My Man on Willpower,” “Sugar Talking,” “We Almost Broke Up Again Last Night,” “Nobody’s Son,” “Never Getting Laid,” “When Did You Get Hot?,” “Go Go Juice,” “Don’t Worry I’ll Make You Worry,” “House Tour,” and “Goodbye.” “Nobody’s Son” and “When Did You Get Hot?” have already gone viral on various online platforms, such as TikTok and Instagram.
When asked about their thoughts on Carpenter’s new album, student opinion varied. Junior Anyelin Martin said, “I honestly loved her new album. I definitely feel like it was different than her others, but a good kind of different. Every track is amazing, and you truly feel like you’re listening to her tell you about her story.” On the other hand, senior Rey Irsula had a slightly different outlook: “At first I didn’t really like the album because it sounded repetitive, but the more I listened to it, the more it grew on me, and now I like it a lot. I don’t think it’s her best album, though.”
While all 12 songs made it onto the Billboard Hot 100, “Tears” debuted at No. 3. “Manchild” holds the No. 4 spot, and “Nobody’s Son” is at No. 12. When asked their top song from the album, junior Daniela Lorenzo answered, “The track that stood out the most to me was ‘Sugar Talking’,” which currently ranks at No. 20. The witty and sly lyricism throughout the album was written by Carpenter herself, with help from collaborators Amy Allen, Jack Antonoff, and John Ryan.
The album’s raunchy humor also owes much of the credit for its widespread success to clever innuendos. Senior Kiana Caldwell commented on this, “Her music isn’t just catchy, it’s also pretty funny. She really knows how to lighten the mood in her songs.” Carpenter’s music allows room for not only creative expression but also a good laugh, as she proves in this album.
Man’s Best Friend’s successful release is surrounded by both positive and negative feedback, but has been an overall hit. With over one billion streams on Spotify to date, it has already surpassed Short n’ Sweet’s first-day numbers by 7.1 million streams. Whether it’s the emotional depth, amusing lyricism, or viral moments, Carpenter’s latest album proves she’s still evolving and she’s nowhere near finished.
