Gran Turismo Races to Theatres

The newest video game movie has just been released. Based on a true story, a fast-paced racing film that tries its best to differentiate itself from others of its genre was born. After the unfortunate cancellation of the Halo movie, director Neill Blomkamp was given a second chance at adapting a video game to the big screen.

The movie follows Jann Mardenborough, who is played by rising star Archie Madekwe. Jann is your average teenage car fanatic, little did he know that this obsession would soon indubitably change his life forever.

At Nissan’s headquarters, an idea surges. The idea involves an academy that recruits Gran Turismo players, and shapes them into real drivers. Jann’s father, Steve Mardenborough, eventually decides to take him to his job at a train yard and show him what he unfortunately will become if he keeps playing those video games. This doesn’t stop Jann as he leaves to compete in a qualifying race for the Nissan and Sony sponsored Gran Turismo Academy. He does incredibly well, making him qualify in the top 10.

From here on out, Jack Salter, played by renowned actor David Harbour, was given the task of training the qualifiers to become true athletes. Throughout his academy journey, Jann manages to excel throughout the many trials that were thrown his way throughout the movie.

This movie really shows the insides of the racing scene beautifully, the amount of nepotism and jealousy that engulfs it. It’s also incredibly detailed for car enthusiasts to enjoy equally. At the end of the day, Gran Turismo is a true story that also reminds you that as long as you strive hard for your dreams, it’s completely possible for it to come true.
